Anyone with an internet connection has more than likely heard of the USC Ice Bucket Challenge.
Like the A-L-S Ice Bucket Challenge back in 2014, this challenge focuses on the importance of mental health. It began at the University of South Carolina, highlighting the mental health struggles around the world and with students. That’s why SAU Junior Joshua Mottet took part.
“I just feel like especially being far away from home, it’s important to be comfortable and feel good about yourself,” said Mottet. “So it’s hard when you don’t have those support systems and you’re away. It can be hard to feel good and not feel alone.”
St. Ambrose has always highlighted the importance of mental health for their students, and strives to have the resources they may need to succeed. And though Mottet keeps his mental health in check, he too stresses the importance of having such a resource on campus.
“I’ve never personally been to the counseling center, but I know where it is and I have the little stickers and magnet things for information.”
Though the challenge can be seen as a fun little internet trend, it’s important to remember the reasoning behind it, and to never forget how important your mental health truly is.
