About the HIVE

Find Your Voice. Share Your Stories.

The future is in storytelling. Whether it’s through legacy journalistic and sports broadcasts, online content such as podcasts, marketing communications, or your personal brand, storytellers create meaning and perspective in our lives, our culture, and our society.

St. Ambrose University’s Department of  Communication and Digital Media has built the HIVE to ensure our media/production, content, public relations and communications majors are skilled storytellers and editors.

You are the explorers who witness the world and share those stories to affect change. At SAU, you’ll learn the art of balancing facts, perspective, and personal stories, along with editorial skills and content creation to tell stories — job skills in high demand.

We expect students to build journalistic integrity, explore creative boundaries and hone your skills to inform, educate and entertain readers and viewers in thought-provoking ways.

SAUtv, KALA-FM, and The Buzz give you hands-on opportunities to build your communications skills. Here, under the watchful eye of advisors with real-world experience , you will find your voice and share your stories.

Be inquisitive. Ask questions. Collect answers. Then share your dedication to the truth with the world.

Welcome to The Hive. Let’s get things buzzing.

About the Buzz

The Buzz is the official, student-run newspaper of St. Ambrose University governed by the SAU Publications Board. Stories reside on “The Hive,” a collection of student-generated stories encompassing all media from the SAU Department of Communication & Digital Media.

The monthly editions of The Buzz are sent via email to faculty, staff, students as well as alumni and friends of SAU who choose to subscribe.

The e-newspaper covers a variety of topics including campus news and events, sports, and feature stories.

There are several opportunities for all students – regardless of major – to gain experience in writing, layout, editing, and photography.

The Buzz fulfills the COMM 332 Print News Practicum course requirement for multimedia journalism majors and minors and would also satisfy non-major electives for all students. You can take up to six credits total while working on the Buzz.
