There is an undeniable connection between artists, writers, and mental illness. From Vincent Van Gogh, to Michelangelo, to Sylvia Plath, many famous and successful people in creative professions have struggled with mental illnesses. The question that remains is whether or not these people are creative because of their mental illness, or in spite of it.
