The men’s bowling team is nationals-bound! Over the course of a two day intercollegiate sectionals tournament, the Bees took first place, beating their competitors by at least two hundred pins.

The team was excited about taking the lead.

“We knew we had it but we wanted to lead the sectionals, that was our goal. We didn’t want to finish second or third especially to our rivals, um, so we kept bowling, kept pushing, we pushed to lead that sectional,” Freshman bowler, Tyler Close says.

After struggling in their last regular season tournament, the Bees were determined to make their mark at nationals.

“Uh, we really, after the Hoosier, we were like, we were down in the dumps, some would say. So we really needed a confidence booster and this weekend definitely showed it,” Lucas Hersrud, sophomore bowler said.

Lucas Hersrud also qualified for nationals for his individual games.

“I figured at the end, actually our coach was talking to me about how I’ll be on the bubble, and once we found out one guy dropped out, a lot of my teammates came running over and telling me,” Hersrud said.

After making it to nationals the last four years, this will be senior Zach Greim’s last collegiate tournament.

“Um, it’s definitely quite the experience to think about going into your last tournament. You know it’s your last one, but I’m going to try to block that out,” Greim said.

The Fighting Bees travel to Las Vegas for nationals in mid April and are hoping to bring home some gold.
