Under the bright lights and pressure-filled moments of live sports, confidence is everything. At only 16 years old, Grant Dahlstrom already carries himself like a seasoned professional behind the microphone.
Dahlstrom currently works with QC Sports Net, covering the Quad City Storm, United Township basketball, and Moline High School football. While most teenagers are focused on homework and extracurricular activities, Grant is balancing school with live broadcasts, building a résumé that many aspiring broadcasters twice his age would desire.
His passion for play-by-play began in his living room, calling games off the television for fun. But what started as a hobby quickly turned into something much more serious. In 2022, Dahlstrom won the Marquee Sports Network Junior Broadcaster Contest, a breakthrough moment that validated his talent and opened the door to real-world opportunities.
Since then, he has dedicated himself to mastering the craft. Play-by-play broadcasting demands more than excitement; it requires preparation, accuracy, and storytelling.
“I enjoy taking vocabulary and meshing them together and making them my own,” says Grant. He dedicates his time by spending hours researching rosters, studying player tendencies, organizing stat sheets, and analyzing professional broadcasters to refine his style.
Listeners quickly notice his steady delivery and attention to detail. His calls are polished, his energy is authentic, and his understanding of the game goes beyond his years.
At an age when many students are still deciding on their plans, Dahlstrom already has a clear vision. Grant says, “I hope to someday sign a contract with a team or a big professional network.” With each broadcast, he moves one step closer to that goal.
